Upgrading Your Smile in Boynton Beach, Florida

Jamie J. Alexander on November 15, 2021

In our family and cosmetic dentistry practice in Boynton Beach, FL, Dr. Jamie J. Alexander provides the full range of cosmetic dentistry services in a uniquely wonderful way.

  1. First, he does a thorough, comprehensive examination to diagnose any oral health issues that need to be treated or managed to achieve the best cosmetic and functional results that will be healthy and long-lasting.
  2. Second, he will spend time with you discussing what is possible and helping you make the treatment decisions that are best for you. He will answer your questions and address your concerns — so you can make decisions with confidence.
  3. Creating a cosmetic treatment plan will be a collaborative process. Together with Dr. Alexander, you will consider your oral health circumstances, how long it will take to get the results you want, the costs of various treatments, and the advantages of one option over another. For example, if your desire is to have a beautiful smile in time for a special occasion that is coming up soon, you might choose porcelain veneers.
  4. Fourth, you are never under pressure to decide before you are sure you want to move forward with upgrading your smile.
  5. You can ask for a “trial smile” which means Dr. Alexander will apply temporary composite to your teeth to help you visualize how your teeth will look after treatment with optimally esthetic veneers, crowns, and/or fillings. We will take before and after photos for you to examine. Application of temporary composite does not require modification of your teeth, and the composite is easily removed after you view your possible new smile.

Common Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Teeth Whitening — Our in-office professional teeth whitening with Opalescence Boost can whiten your teeth in one convenient session. The Opalescence bleaching system was selected by Dr. Alexander because it safely and comfortably produces optimal results fast.

Porcelain Veneers — Porcelain veneers can be used to cover cracks in tooth enamel, repair small chips, and cover stains. They can be used to increase the length or width of teeth for esthetic uniformity and to close slight gaps. They even can be used to eliminate a slightly crooked appearance of teeth. Porcelain has the translucence and reflectivity of natural tooth enamel and comes in an extensive range of color shades. Dr. Alexander can select a shade that will match the color of your surrounding teeth.

Composite Bonding — Sometimes Dr. Alexander bonds high-grade composite to the front of teeth to cover chips, cracks, and discoloration; increase the length or width of teeth; close slight gaps, and even fix mildly crooked teeth. This is a more affordable treatment than porcelain veneers, but it is not as durable or lifelike in appearance. This material can be used to quickly transform a smile and allows more time for other needed treatments to be completed. You can be photo-ready or job interview-ready in one appointment, and your more definitive all-ceramic veneers and/or crowns can be custom created and placed on your teeth at a later time.

Custom Crowns — Sometimes a tooth is so damaged that a crown that covers the entire tooth above the gum line is the only way to predictably restore the tooth. Today’s porcelain all-ceramic crowns are so durable they may last the rest of your lifetime. And they are natural in appearance. Dr. Jamie Alexander designs every crown for optimal function and esthetics. Like veneers, porcelain crowns can be used to cover chips, cracks, and discoloration. They can be designed to increase the size of teeth and close slight gaps.

Tooth Replacement — Replacement of a missing tooth in your smile, or even towards the back of your mouth has an enormous impact on your self-confidence, social life, work-life, and ability to chew your favorite foods. Whenever there is a missing tooth, adjacent teeth drift into the open space. This can be very disruptive of chewing function and a beautiful smile. Because there are alternatives for replacing lost teeth, you and Dr. Alexander can plan the treatment you prefer. Alternatives include dentures, bridges, and implant-supported prosthetic teeth. For example, if you have lost one or more teeth, lifelike crowns can be supported by one or more dental implants, or a lifelike dental bridge can be suspended between two healthy teeth. If you have a denture now, you may want to upgrade with dental implant treatment. Dr. Alexander will explain what is possible and why implant dentistry has the edge over other types of treatment when it comes to optimal function and beautiful appearance.

Fillings, Inlays, and Onlays — Composite fillings and lab-created ceramic restorations are used for repairing cavities and other significant enamel damage on teeth that does not require a crown. When upgrading your smile, you may want to have old silver amalgam fillings removed and replaced with tooth-colored restorations that blend so perfectly with surrounding tooth enamel that you do not see the fillings at all.

Invisalign® Treatment — Dr. Alexander’s patients frequently undergo a course of Invisalign treatment prior to or after having teeth restored. Removable clear aligners are used to gradually move tooth roots into the optimal position for occlusal function, optimal oral hygiene, restoration of teeth, and an esthetic smile. Our teen and adult patients choose to have this treatment rather than braces because of Invisalign’s comfort, ease, and near invisibility.

Esthetic Gum Contouring — The contours of the gum line can be reshaped to create a more symmetrical and naturally esthetic appearance. A gummy smile can be corrected with a gum lift that increases the vertical exposure of the upper front teeth.
