Oral Hygiene While Feeling Sick

“It’s more important than ever right now to boost your body’s immunity to viruses,” says Boynton Beach dentist Dr. Jamie Alexander. “We’ve been posting immune system boosting tips, like staying on top of oral hygiene and healthy foods you can eat, this last month, and those of you who trust me know I am genuinely concerned about all people in our community. I fervently hope you are doing all you can to stay safe and stay strong in body, mind, and spirit.”

In general, the following lifestyle strategies help make a person’s immune system stronger:

  • practicing correct hand-washing and oral hygiene
  • exercising regularly
  • maintaining a healthy weight
  • avoiding smoking
  • avoiding alcohol or drinking in moderation
  • getting enough sleep
  • minimizing stress
  • excellent nutrition

But what if you are already feeling ill? What if you are one of the unfortunate Floridians who have tested positive for COVID19? How can you improve your immune system?

Oral hygiene is an important step. The American Dental Association has published 5 Ways to Care for Your Mouth When You’re Sick. Read the 5 ways.
